I have a warning for everyone--make sure you keep your anti-virus software going on your computer-after the anti-viral software I have on my new notebook expired--I did not immediately update it ---
Long story made short--I got a virus and had to do a total swipe and reload of my OS---
that meant that everything stored on here got lost--and with that--however I was getting onto chat---I lost it and am now back to the default settings for everything including my Verizon wireless card--
For whatever reason--they prevent me from coming on here to chat but after a time--I eventually was able to chat on here but now--I no longer can--
hopefully I will be able to again at some point--but till that time---I will continue to post on the forumn board--hope to be able to chat again one of these days---

Sorry to hear that. have you checked to ensure you have the latest release of Java installed on your machine? The Java client is required for chat.

Volt IS RIGHT.
My moms computer did the same thing... she stopped renewing her anti-virus protection... then she got all these porn pop-ups and the next thing we knew her computer crashed... she lost everything.
Lucky my dad had a spare computer around for her to use.
ALWAYS RENEW your anti-virus subcription when it expires!!! OR do what I do, renew it a day or 2 before the expiry date just to be safe. You never know whats lurking.... just waiting to attack the moment the subcription expires.

Someone asked if I have JAVA--yes I do--I had to download it again---and I go to other chat rooms with JAVA and get on fine--
On here I get the same message I used to that I can't access port 8080---that was my situation initially when I went to Verizon Wireless--they apparently put up some sort of block on that port---I can get access on other wireless networks-just not Verizon
I was eventually able to chat here--I did not do anything special--other than just try to chat--at first I could get on to chat for a few minutes then get booted-eventually I could chat all of the time--I hope this is the case again but it took me about six weeks to alleviate the problem the first time---

With as much free software downloads as there are out there, you need to be horsewhipped for forgetting. So, a big ol' bag of reminders that you will be back online and fully operational soon.

I have downloaded and installed what I was told was a very good anti-virus program from AVG---the technician at Acer told me to get it--he said it's better at weeding out nasty bugs far better than Symantec's Norton--which is what I had before---
I am slowly but surely restoring my computer to what I had before---I just hope that whatever "broke" the barrier that kept me from chatting here before eventually helps me to breach the barrier set up by the good folks at Verizon who apparently see fit to ban adult customers paying not an insignificant amount of money over the course of a year for their service to visit places on the internet as they see fit---
Just like we have "the nanny state" thanks to Big Brother government--I guess we have the "nanny corporate state" as well!!!!!
Always some schmuck trying to decide what is best for his fellow man I guess!!!!!

You don't need to keep your virus-scan up to date...
YOU NEED TO GET LINUX....
Sorry, I installed Ubuntu Linux on my computer a while back and I love it. It's better than any Windows I've ever used, and I've used 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, and xp. Great thing about Linux though, very, VERY, few viruses. It takes most programmers so long to get used to programming in Linux that the ones who make viruses give up before they get far enough to do anything...
