What are the current thoughts on anal sex and spermice.

I want to assure safe by having my partner wear a condom and lubricate with a spermicidal gel to help discourage aids.

kudos for wanting to be safe, but spermicide kills sperm not aids. You'd be better off using a nice high quality water based lube to keep the condom from breaking if you want to prevent STD's of most sorts.

I was under the belief that Spermicide only kills... well, Sperm.

Not the AIDS virus.

Spermicide is NASTY stuff!

I wasn't sure if they even made condoms with it because I heard it's not good for preventing pregnancies either.

Many people are allergic to it and while synthetic lubes aren't always that good either, spermicide/nonoxonol-9 isn't good to get into the anus or urethra.

Also there have been studies that show that spermicide does nothing to prevent seroconverting and it actually increases the risk of transmission.

Just use condoms without it.

Condoms just lower your risk for getting HIV, they're not foolproof.

If you're that worried about HIV take time and get to know your partner and get tested together and if your partner is of unkown or poz status don't have sex with them.

If you're HIV+ there are types of sex that you can do that won't put you at risk for getting reinfected or getting more strains of HIV, or for giving HIV to an HIV- person.

That aside, I find spermicide stings a lot, during anal, so make sure me and my partner use a lot of lube. As spermicide only is meant to kill the sperms, should there be a leak, surely it is just there to prevent pregnancy, so having such a thing in use during anal sex surely becomes unnecessary?

I'd use condoms always during anal (can never be too safe when it comes to STDs/STIs), but I'd avoid ones with spermicide where pos, simply for the sting factor myself. Otherwise, lots of KY jelly to dilute the spermicide.

Before, my present male sex partner, realized that the only one I had sex with was him, he insisted on immediately having a double shot of vodka immediately after swallowing cum from me. He still wants and gets the vodka.

I know this is a little off topic but what scares me is that condoms are only about 50% effective in reducing genital herpes transmission between sexual partners. And in general the risk to uninfected women is roughly three times greater than the risk to men.

I just found this out recently and was pretty shocked. We want to feel safe as long as we use condoms but 50% isn't a statistic that inspires a lot of confidence!:eek:
